Why not enjoy the authentic traditional Japanese sweets making and Matcha in cozy private house near Osaka Castle?
Ohagi is one of Japanese traditional sweets, which is basically a rice cake covered with sweet bean paste.
Ohagi used to be home-cooked.
My mother made a lot of Ohagi whenever we had an family event.
It is said that each family has their own recipe.
Nowadays, almost people don't make at home.
But I love my mother's Ohagi, so I'm now also making Ohagi by her recipe.
I hope that I'd love to tell her recipe to many people as well as my daughter.

Tomoko provided a wonderful experience in a beautiful setting. We learnt so much about making sweets and food culture. Definitely worth a try.

Tomoko was a great teacher and everything was very clear. She gave us a chance to do every step of the recipe and we made delicious ohagi to take away. The venue is a very charming old house and Tomoko was full of information about Osaka and ideas for things to do.

We had a wonderful time learning with Tomoko this evening - highly recommended! When you arrive to the address, make sure you use the door just to the left of the store (look for the sign!) and walk up to the 2nd floor. After some hot roasted barley tea, we made 3 different variations of Ohagi: 1 with anko (sweet paste made with adsuki/red beans and sugar) on the outside, and 2 with anko on the inside, covered with kinako (roasted soybean flour) and aonori (small pieces of roasted seaweed). We were fortunate and had a private class with just the 2 of us - she was very patient with her instructions and took the time to answer all of our questions. Aside from cooking the adsuki/red beans and the rice, she guided us through the process of doing pretty much everything else. At the end of our experience, we tasted the delicious sweets made with our own hands, paired with warm matcha. We left with full tummies, some extra Ohagi in our bag, written instructions for how to create Ohagi on our own, and a greater appreciation for homemade traditional sweets. Thank you, Tomoko, for a memorable experience in Osaka! 6 stars! Arigatougozaimashita!

Had an amazing time with Tomoko, who shared in a beautiful way her skills and the meaning of Ohagi. She is both a great teacher and a friendly person. I will come back to another class with pleasure :D

The experience was fun and informative. We made three different types of ohagi, which were all delicious. The host was very kind and gave us step by step directions and demonstrations, while including the history of ohagi. By the end of the experience we knew more about ohagi and also got to bring a recipe back home.

I spend a lovely afternoon with Tomoko. I was the only participant and she did the experience just for me, so we talked a lot. I learned a lot about japanese sweets, especially Ohagi. It was interesting and fun, to prepare Ohagi and the tasting of the four different Ohagis in the end was delicious.
