Що ви робитимете

Koto is one of the most traditional instruments in Japan. I'll be more than happy to show you how to play this historical 13-stringed instrument. First, you will enjoy a welcome koto performance. Then, wearing three picks on your fingers, you'll try the koto while playing "Sakura Sakura," one of the most famous traditional Japanese folk songs, often sung as a song to represent Japan. After practicing, you'll enjoy an ensemble with another koto or recorder. Apart from enjoying the koto, you'll also try to play the PVC shakuhachi, which produces an amazing sound, and I'll introduce you to other musical instruments such as the sangen (or shamisen). I will perform another western tune on koto, if you like. Finally, we'll take some pictures wearing a red happi—a straight-sleeved coat often worn at Japanese festivals. You will surely have nice pictures as a memory of Japan.
Other things to note
I speak a little English, but not so well, not so fluent. I am out of town for a while. I will answer back as soon as I get home.

Koto has always been part of my life. My mother, who is president of this NPO and received the Kitakyushu City Cultural Contribution Award in 2013, has been teaching koto and shamisen for more than 45 years. So I have been listening to and learning koto since I was a child. Since we started working and playing hand-in-hand, we have received the Encouragement Prize of the 8th DAEP Artist Concert in 2009 and the Encouragement Prize of Nagatani Kengyo Contest in 2009.

Де ви побуваєте

This experience will be held at NPO Wagakukeimei Office, which is on the sixth floor of the apartment building Kobaidai Haitsu. There is a small tatami-floored room as well as a western style room. After meeting at the Kobai 3 Chome bus stop, we will walk for one or two minutes to the room. Children often play outside. You will meet the local people and learn something local and about daily Japanese life.

I wasn't expecting much at first, because I only expected to play a little. However, Kana and her family were very friendly, and made sure I felt at home. And it was a truly unique experience, having not played the Koto before! However, patience and willingness to correct my finger posture (it's not as easy as it looks!) allowed me to follow their guidance with little issue! Not only that, I got to try the Japanese flute, Shakuhachi, and even tried the Shanmisen. Do attention to the small details of the instruments, which could awe you when you think about the consideration put into each. Thank you Kana and family for your warm welcome and lesson!

Ever since watching that amazing scene in Kung Fu Hustle, I’ve wanted to learn the koto (similar to guzheng in China). What a fantastic lesson with 3 different traditional instruments. I suggest also trying Mary Had a Little Lamb on the koto!

I had a wonderful time trying the koto for the first time! Kana and her mother were great teachers and showed me some cool techniques in addition to helping me learn a simple song! If I lived in their city I would definitely want more lessons! Anyone interested in Japanese instruments should check out this experience!

It was my first time playing “KOTO” and I enjoyed so much. Kana sensei and Keiko sensei was very nice. They taught me with easy steps to play song “Sakura”. Even me who had no any experience in music before, can do it so everyone can do it! After class we had Matcha and Japanese sweet called “yogan” together. If you have a chance to visit Fukuoka or Kita-Kyushu, do not miss to try this experience. It was my really happy 90 minutes:)

A wonderful experience ! Kana-san was so welcoming and kind. I was very happy to play "Sakura" during the cherry blossom season. I always wanted to learn to play the koto, Even Japanese people have very few who have played the koto. I would like many people to know the heart of Japan by playing the koto.
