Guest have access to the house and the surrounding land. Guess do not have access and should not trespass on the neighbors land past the grass area behind the house or further up the gravel road. Guest may use the rustic firepit as long as guests extinguish the fire before leaving or going to bed. The contents of the tall black cabinet in the kitchen belong to the owner. Guess do not have access to either shed outside. Guests are welcome to take pictures in front of the sheds.

Rental Rules -
Powledge House Rental Rules:
This is a NON SMOKING unit. NO SMOKING allowed inside this home. Smoking inside the home causes smoke damage to the home and can incur an extra cleaning fee to the renter.
PETS – Only dogs allowed approximately less than 50 pounds. Maximum Dogs allowed – 3. No other types of pets allowed. Pet details are specified in the renter agreement sent to Renter.
DAMAGE/RESERVATION DEPOSIT - Damage deposit payments are arranged and agreed upon via Rental site. Payment agreements are specified in these agreements online. Any special Addendums for payment will be added to this rental agreement. The deposit is NOT applied toward rent; however, it is fully refundable per the agreement in Rental site, provided the the provisions are met that are specified in rental agreement sent to Renter.
MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY – 10 persons. An additional charge or $10.00 per person per night for guests in addition will be assessed.
MINIMUM STAY – This property requires a two (2) night minimum stay. Longer minimum stays may be required during holiday periods or special events/games. If a rental is taken for less than two days, the guest
will be charged this minimum rate.
INCLUSIVE FEES – Rates include a one-time linen & towel setup. Amenity fees are included in the rental rate.
NO DAILY HOUSEKEEPING SERVICE – linens and bath towels are included in the unit, daily maid service is not included.
PARKING – Parking is available for only 6 vehicles.
WATER AND SEPTIC –DO NOT FLUSH anything other than toilet paper. No feminine products should be flushed at anytime. If it is found that feminine products have been flushed and clog the septic system, you could be charged damages of up to two hundred dollars ($200). Tampons should not be flushed but should be wrapped and thrown in the provided garbage cans.
CANDLES: Candles are not permitted to be burned inside of the home.
TRAVEL INSURANCE – We highly recommend all guests purchase travel insurance.
HANDICAP ASSESSABLE: The Property is NOT handicap accessible. There are no provisions made to make it handicap accessible. Any handicap renter or guest has been notified by accepting rental of the property. By the renter accepting this reservation, it is agreed that all renters/guests are assuming the risk of any harm. The landlord is not responsible.
WRITTEN EXCEPTIONS – Any exceptions to the above mentioned policies must be approved in writing in advance between the guest(s) and landlord / property manager.
FALSIFIED RESERVATIONS – Any reservation obtained under false pretense will be subject to forfeiture of advance payment, deposit and/or rental money, and the party will not be permitted to check in. All renters
must send the landlord a copy of their driver’s license along with an agreed upon rental agreement. This renter that sends the ID and rental agreement is a person that SHALL occupy the property at time of rental.
PAYMENT – Payments are arranged and agreed upon via this Rental Site and/or via the landlord. Any special Addendum for payment will be added to this rental agreement. Payment Methods Accepted via this rental site / Landlord.
CANCELLATIONS – Cancellation policies are arranged and agreed upon via this Rental Site, and/or via the landlord. Any special Addendum for
cancellations will be worked with the landlord / property manager. The Powledge House and land it resides on is privately owned; the landlord is not responsible for any Renters accidents, injuries or illness that occurs while on the premises or its facilities. The Landlord is not responsible for the loss of personal belongings or valuables of the guests/renters. By accepting a reservation, it is agreed that all guests are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from their use of the premises or others whom they invite to use the premise. By accepting a reservation, the renter is agreeing to send the Landlord a copy of your Driver’s License via text/email along with the agreed upon Rental agreement (via email).

History of the Powledge House-
In 1844, Gideon Powledge moved to East Alabama from Georgia to receive title to his land on the west side of Chewacla Creek in what is now Lee County, Alabama. A Methodist Preacher, Powledge cleared the lands, set up a blacksmith shop and preached in the Methodist churches in the area. He is also credited with constructing a grist mill on the creek south of his home and later a cotton gin. In 1851 he built this federal-style plantation home on part of his property which lies along the present day Highway 12, just ½ mile from the location of the Powledge House today.
The design of the Powledge House is unique since it did not have a wide central hall as did many southern homes of the period The style of this house could have been found in the Tidewater Virginia or the Carolinas as early as the time of the Revolutionary War or before. There are few such examples remaining today.
The story and half house originally had six rooms - four downstairs and two upstairs. The house has two unusual front windows, each section with nine panes and each window with glass sidelights. The two front doors are framed by sidelights and a overhead glass transom. The two front doors open into two large rooms which were originally multi-purposed rooms (parlors, bedrooms and eating areas). The two smaller rooms behind them were connected by a covered porch area. These smaller rooms have been restored as a kitchen and master bath. The porch area has been enclosed to provide a dining area. The original kitchen was away from the house, connected by a breezeway.
The back stairs lead to the upstairs sleeping area which was used by the children. One of the upstairs rooms has been converted to a bathroom and dressing room.
The fireplace mantel in the parlor on the right side of the house is of significant note because of its elaborate design. Perhaps Rev. Powledge felt that a man of his importance in the community needed to have a parlor that reflected his position.
The Powledge House is recognized by the Alabama Historical Commission as a Historic Landmark.
