Love this place. Food is basically American food with German styling. Three kinds of schnitzel - very good. Wouldn't say its authentically German, but the draw is the awesome ambiance, German beer, and the outdoor and rooftop patios. You can walk over and crawl back.

It's a family style Italian place with huge portions great for groups but solo guests are well-served with human-size portions. It's in fun, vibrant Chinatown so you can walk off the carbs on a post dinner stroll.

Whether it's date night or fun with friends, this is a great spot. The ambiance is upscale but still casual. The frozen margaritas are excellent. Go with the swirl of strawberry and lime.

Fun dive bar and the closest thing we have now to a leather bar since our DC Eagle closed during covid. Check the website for theme nights and don't miss the very popular Thursdays "Shirtless Guys Drink Free" party. Also hosts recurring "Lights off/Hands On" parties if cruisey/frisky is your vibe.

The nicest "dive bar" (their words not mine) you'll ever visit. Smallish venue, but packs a punch as a popular hangout for the Logan/14th st neighborhood gays and their circles. Fun back patio with an actual smoking section. Drag shows on occasion. Fun and casual day and happy hour bar. The hunting/phone app people increase as the night progresses.

The iconic Annie's has served excellent food to DC's gay community for decades. This is absolutely the place for a steak dinner and a full menu of everything delicious. Beware - the drinks are a heavy pours, which, if you're able to walk after your meal, will leave you beyond satisfied. Take a disco nap after this place if you plan to go out later.

Voted the most romantic town in the USA, Old Town Alexandria is a historic colonial district that meticulously preserves its heritage through architecture, cobblestone streets, and ghost tours. Also accessible via DC's Watertaxi (picks up at at the Wharf, Georgetown and National Harbor). If cute antique shops, brasseries, evening walks on the scenic shoreline are your thing - this is the spot. Favorite restaurant there is the Chart House (great food, ambience, and views).

H Street Streetcar

DC calls it a streetcar, but whatever you wanna call it - light rail, trolly - it's free. It connects to Union Station and goes up and down H street l. It’s a fun way to see all the shops, bars, theaters, and street life. Quick 5-10 min walk from the house to H street. https://dcstreetcar.com/riding/transit-tracker/

How to ride the DC Metro (subway)

The closest stop is the Noma/Gallaudet station. It's on the red line and about a mile away. No you don't have to walk there. Grab a scooter or e-bike at the bottom of Holbrook and you'll get there in a jiffy. New bike/scooter lanes make it safer- but always be on the lookout. If you use the metro, whatever you do , don't stand on the left side of the escalator. DC locals will run you over. That side is for stair climbers on a mission. Get out of their way and smile.

Звичаї та культура

You're in a city.

Folks from the burbs and rural areas: Enjoy your DC visit with an open mind. This is a vibrant city in a transitioning neighborhood experiencing rapid development. You will see the elements we're proud of as well as the elements we're working on. With that in mind, 1) Lock your vehicle and make it look as boring as possible with nothing valuable visible inside. 2) Eye contact with strangers invites a conversation or a solicitation. 3) Look before crossing the street even if you have a Walk sign and drive defensively with vigilance.

Scooters and rental bikes

Are everywhere. Feel free to use them, just make sure you lock them up at corners preferably with a bike rack. Best spot here is down the hill on the corner of Holbrook and Montello at the Compact/"Compak" (yes I know) Market. Do not tie them up to private property or leave them in front of the house.
