Carvoeiro is a popular village just a short drive from Benagil. It is very popular in the summer and has lots of cafes, bars and restaurants and a small beach. Parking can be difficult in the high season.

Silves is a historic town which was once the capital of the Algarve. It has a Castle and Cathedral both of which are worth a visit. It is better to park by the river and walk to both of these although it is very steep uphill.

Lagos is an historic city with several lovely beaches. There is also the historic centre where you will find a 17th century fort, and the stunning Igreja de Santo Antonia Church. There are lots of shops, cafes and restaurants and a riverside walk.

This small restaurant is within walking distance of Neptuno 6, just down the road into the village (not the hill to the beach). It has proved very popular and gets good reviews for its food. It is closed on Thursdays.

City/town information
Faro is the capital of the Algarve and is about an hours drive from Benagil. It has lots of historic buildings including a cathedral. There is a pleasant pedestrianised area with shops, cafes and restaurants and lovely vibes.

It is the last place on mainland Europe where you can see the sun set - the next people to see the sun rise is across the atlantic.

Monchique is very close to Mount Foia and is a typical mountain community. On hot days much cooler than the coastal Algarve and different scenery. Caldas Monchique is on the road to Monchique and is a tranquil spa village with cafes and bars.
Mount Foia (near Monchique) is the highest point in the Algarve and can be seen in the far distance from the apartment roof terrace looking inland. Well worth a drive for the far reaching views across the Algarve (on a clear day). There are a couple of shops and a nice cafe at the top.

Zoo
There is a large collection of smaller animals and birds, particularly primates, all extremely well cared for and makes an interesting half a day visit. If you visit in the afternoon you can usually watch the animals being fed.
