The Lookout is a stand alone guest cabin located on an elevated private 10 acre property just 5 minutes drive to Cooks Beach. Situated next to regenerating bush, it offers views through to Mercury Bay Winery, the Purangi Estuary & beyond to Mercury Bay itself. Situated on the crest of the Coromandel ranges on the 309 road. Mahakirau Forest Estate comprises almost 600 ha of native forest. Each site is convenated by QEII National Trust who describe Mahakirau "outstanding for it's ecology and wildlife value with brown kiwi, kaka, Hochsetetter's and Archey's frogs all present". A spacious house in a bush setting, sit back and relax, take a bush walk down to the stream on the property and star gaze at night.

Fantastic spot for a relaxing holiday. Drenched in sun and sheltered from the wind. Most of the time is spent with the doors from the lounge wide open enjoying the outdoor furniture on the covered deck, or cooking in the bamboo BBQ hut, hanging about in the hammock or lazing at the beautiful Hahei beach. Be sure to make the most of the outdoor solar heated shower when you return from the beach. Tucked away in the garden, it's a real hit.
