Este aeródromo se sitúa a sólo ocho kilómetros de la capital malagueña, y a cinco de Torremolinos. Entre sus instalaciones destaca la nueva terminal T3 que, además de haber renovado las instalaciones, cuenta con un gran intercambiador de transportes. El acceso a todas sus terminales es fácil, tanto en vehículo particular como utilizando los medios de transporte públicos que lo conectan con Málaga capital y otros importantes municipios de la provincia. La citada línea para en la estación de autobuses de la capital, en el Paseo de los Tilos, desde donde los viajeros pueden desplazarse hasta otras localidades de la provincia, así como a destinos de largo recorrido. La compañía CTSA-Portillo realiza el trayecto entre las terminales 1, 2 y 3 y la estación de autobuses de Marbella (Avda.Trapiche, s/n) cada 1 hora 45 minutos. Los trenes tardan 14 minutos desde el centro de Málaga al aeropuerto, y 45 minutos aproximadamente hasta su última parada, Fuengirola.
